LEGISLATIVE-CIVIL SOCIETY PARLEY

On Wednesday, 6th March, 2013, the Lagos State House of Assembly held the Maiden Legislative-Civil Society Parley with more than 52 Non-Governmental Organizations in Lagos State.The programme was organised by the House Committee on Information, Security, Strategy and Publicity. At the parley which was anchored by Dr. Sylvester Odion-Akhaine, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Centre for Constitutionalism and Demilitarization (CENCORD), Rt. Hon. Sabit Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly emphasized on the need for more interactive synergy between the House and the Civil Society Community. Arising from this, a resolution was passed that the parley should be made a quarterly affair and this was unanimously adopted by all participants. The programme which is long overdue was widely applauded by all and sundry. It opened another channel of engagement for mutual collaboration towards the promotion of good governance through the legislative process. The theme of the parley was ''Leveraging Good governance through the Legislative Process: The Roles of The Stakeholders''. Not fewer than 150 social, political and development activists attended the well organized programme.
